Plugging in – My term for being hooked up to the dialysis machine
SPK – Simultaneous pancreas and kidney. It’s the type of transplant for diabetics with chronic kidney disease. Not all kidney failure diabetics get both organs and there is certain criteria that needs to be met. Luckily, I’m on the SPK transplant list. Good bye diabetes!
Post TX – Post transplant
Dave – Dave is my super vein which was sewn to my artery to make it strong enough to withstand being poked by two needles 3 times a week for 4 hours at a time to enable my blood to be cleaned by a machine.
Marina – My home Haemodialysis machine. Named after my nurse who taught me how to use it so I could get home!

Thanks for your comment and I’m really pleased you’ve enjoyed reading my diaries. Dealing with any chronic illness is hard. I can’t imagine what it’s like living with kidney and liver disease – how do you manage? I’ve tried to stay positive but it’s not always easy and behind closed doors I have broken down several times – even after transplant (my next post is about the mind and how it affects us).
